Abstract:

The purposes of the study are fourfold: (l) to develop and investigate the NTNU' Art Aptitude Test based on Chinese cluture to be used in Taiwan area for screening talented students, (2) to estabilish standard score and percentile norms for male and female separately, (3) to study the reliability and validity of this test, (4) to compare and analyze the characteristics of art aptitude of elementary school and Junior high school students.
The samples were 2082 male and 2085 female students from 3rd grade to 9th grade. NTNU' Art Aptitude Test consists of five subtests: (1) Art Judgment Test, (2) Design Judgment Test, (3) Chinese Painting Judgment Test, (4) Color-Sensory Test, and (5) Visual-Memory Test.
The results of this study were summarized as follows: (1) There were gradu-ally increasing differences between sexes from 3rd grade to 9th grade on the scores of the NUNT' Art Aptitude Test. (2) The average scores of the NTNU'Art Aptitude Test were gradually increasing along with the age level. (3) The seven-week stability coefficient of total score was .78 in the 5th and 6th grades. (4) There were significant mean differences between the high art talent group and the general children group.(5) The intercorrelations of the five subtests were calcu-lated based on 136 7th and 9th grade students. The coefficients of correlation eranged from .03 to .36.
