Abstract:

LAO-QI-DA and PIAO-TONG-SHI were among the earliest textbooks for teaching Chinese as foreign or second language. They were compiled at the end of the Yuan Dynasty (around 1346A.D.) for Koreans to learn Mandarin Chinese. The language and culture of ancient China was recorded in the books. They provide important material for historical research. Compiled over 650 years ago, these two books have contributed to teaching Chinese as foreign or second language including contrastive analysis and teaching methods.
