Abstract:
Since the first international conference on the subject held in Germany in 1997, the study of learner’s dictionaries has been established as a new applied discipline in the linguistic community, whose characteristics can be defined as focusing on beginner profile, sentence syntax and bilingual dimension. This paper, based on needs and requirements in the field of Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language, discusses some relevant issues and argues that learner’s dictionaries should function as the ‘engine’ for promoting Chinese worldwide.
