A Study of Constructing the Conceptual Hierarchy in Rivers Environmental Education Author: Ching-Ming Wang, Chuen-Li Chang(Graduate Institute of Environmental Education , National Taiwan Normal University)

Abstract:

This study was one of the projects of Taiwan Rivers Environmental Education/TREE PROJECT, proposed by Dr. Ching-ming Wang ( 1995a ) in Envi-ronmental Education Quarterly No.25. The purpose of the present study, following TREE PROJECT research scheme, was to analyze the major underlying concepts in rivers environmental education, and then to construct its conceptual hierarchy.
Through concept coverage and hierarchy analyses, the major underlying concepts in rivers environmental education were analyzed. There are 52 key concepts ( 14 river ecosystem concepts, 12 river environmental resources concepts, 11 river environmental changes concepts, and 15 river environmental management concepts ) selected and conclusively constructed in the 4 domains and 17 subdomains of the hierarchy.
This paper conclusively suggested that the conceptual framework of rivers environ-mental education could be constructed in accordance with the results of this study.
